Louisville Metro Government
Performs highly skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive machinery.
UNDER GENERAL DIRECTION:
Overhauls motors on trucks, cars, garbage packers, and other large equipment.
Secures parts for vehicles.
Makes service calls in the field.
Diagnoses defects in automotive equipment.
Corrects break downs or problems concerning automotive equipment.
Corrects defective automotive equipment.
Performs related work.
Minimum Requirements: Completion of a recognized Mechanic apprenticeship program.
Two years of experience in mechanical work in a commercial garage.
Additional experience may be substituted for the training requirement.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the Department of Transportation.
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA.
Must be on 24 hour call. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement or obtain within six months of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work.
Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing.
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting.
Sufficient vision and hearing are needed to detect and correct mechanical problems.
