Transit Security Specialist

Under general supervision, conducts general workplace safety administration; responsible for implementation, inspection, coordination, investigation, audits, and evaluations of safe workplace practices in transit bus operations. Conducts regular safety meetings with emphasis on prevention of accidents and mitigation of risks. Analyzes accident data to develop recommendations for improvement. Serves as an advisor to department leaders and managements; assists in resolving hazards, and follow-up on safety procedures and protocols. Responds and assists with safety and security issues related to transit coach operations and fixed facilities. Perform Assigned Safety Functions
Serve as customer service liaison at Front Desk Reception-Union Station and both guard stations ( Union Station and 29th Street).
Work with security personnel contracted by TARC as it pertains to fixed facility and safety officers
Serve as contact person with applicable area school administrators as it applies to adverse student behavior on coaches.
Evaluates construction site conditions to identify regulatory violations, working with the resident engineers and contractors to correct hazards.


Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Occupational Safety, or a related degree, plus three years of applicable experience. A combination of education, experience and training may be substituted when competency in the position is demonstrated.
Must be able to satisfactorily complete the Louisville Metro Government, Certified Safety and Security Officer program within one (1) year of employment.
Knowledge of principles of safety, environmental health, and accident prevention program administration.
Understands the principles of accident investigation.
Experience in regulatory agency administrative reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
Knowledge of OSHA, KYOSHA, Hazardous Waste Management, EPA, and FTA regulatory requirements a plus.
Excellent record of dependability and reliability
Ability to de-escalate conflicts and respond with appropriate customer-centered resolution.
Skilled at interacting with customers of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
Good verbal communication skills and an attitude of interest and concern are required.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Strong customer service orientation.
Successful performance on pre-employment tests.

Work Schedule

Other — May vary. Rotating on call duties for twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day periods for emergency response may be required.
