The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Summer Day Camp Director for the Portland Corps, located in Louisville, Kentucky. Job Summary: Assist with planning, coordination, supervision, and direction of Summer Day Camp. Maintains program records; cleanliness and orderliness of Corps property. Ensures the safety of the children and fosters a fun environment. Knowledge of Child Development. Knowledge of age appropriate programs for children. Knowledge of administration of non-profit organizations. Knowledge of motivation and leadership techniques. Ability to manage and supervise the work performed by staff and volunteers. Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Physical Requirement and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to communicate the English language both orally and in writing, in an effective and professional manner. Ability to manage multiple, concurrent activities. Ability to operate general office equipment. Ability to exercise assertiveness., Ability to plan and organize work. Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light moderately heavy (25-50lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Education and Experience
Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field AND Three years’ professional experience in social and recreational services, teaching, and/or the supervision of children, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Valid Driver's License (Must meet The Salvation Army’s guidelines to be approved as a driver.)
Full-time and/or Part-time
Set Hours — Starts on June 10th and runs through August 1st. Hours 8:00 am - 4:00 pm or 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
