Job Summary: Provide immediate and temporary first aid services for victims of injury and sudden illness at events that are contracted between organizations and the American Red Cross. This position ensures that FAST activities comply with all applicable state and local regulation and licenses and that necessary reports are submitted to regulatory authorities as needed. What you’ll do: As part of our First Aid Services Team (FAST), you’ll be first on the scene to provide first aid services for victims of injury and sudden illness at various events in the Louisville, KY area. Responsibilities: 1. Provide emergency care only within the level of your American Red Cross training. 2. Respond quickly and efficiently to any emergency. 3. Follow directions given by the FAST Station Leader and Paid Staff. 4. Work in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services personnel. 5. Provide outstanding customer service. 6. Properly complete FAST records and reports, including the Patient Treatment Form. 7. Follow FAST guidelines as established by American Red Cross National Headquarters.
8. Be able to provide FAST communications support by way of 800 MHz radio. 9. It is the responsibility of all Red Cross staff members to recruit, train and work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone. It is expected that each member of the regional management team to work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function.
10. Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross. Work is performed indoors and outdoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is a disaster response organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during period of major disaster. Potential exposure to Hepatitis B and blood borne pathogens via bodily fluids, blood, mucus, saliva. Must be open to working outdoor events where weather conditions will vary and may also be exposed to long periods of extreme noise levels inside arenas where concerts or other high volume events may occur. You’re a quick thinker who’s cool under pressure. Not only are you Red Cross certified in First Aid, CPR/AED (adult, children and infants) and Preventing Disease Transmission, you rely on good judgment and know the boundaries of your training. Experience: Minimum of 6 months – 1 year as a FAST Team member or similar emergency response experience. Must hold current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification. Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities. Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong skills in planning and problem-solving. Hold a current certification in American Red Cross First Aid (3-year recertification). Hold a current certification in American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED with Child and Infant CPR (annual recertification). Hold a current certification in Preventing Disease Transmission (annual recertification). Flexible and able to communicate clearly. Must provide own reliable transportation. Maintains confidentiality. Works with integrity and ethically.Due to the high degree of risk associated with the provision of this service, this position requires good judgment and decision making abilities that help provide lifesaving response and balance the risks to the organization and employees/volunteers working in the program. Dexterity and strength are a given—you have no problem being up and down and on the go. Following procedures, filling out paperwork, and strong collaboration with your team come with the territory. You’re courteous and care about others—which is why you got into this line of work in the first place. Essential Functions/Physical Requirements: Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions.



Work Schedule

Flexible - Will work with applicant — Varies/Flexible Schedule from Monday - Friday and Weekends (Saturday & Sunday). Will be required to work evenings and weekends to provide program direction and ensure adequate coverage for contracted events and that first aid station and personnel operate within state regulations and run smoothly and efficiently.


$10.10 per hour

Required Education

Certificate — High school diploma or combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
