AmeriCorps member – Youth Specialist

Community Action Southern Indiana

The Life Literacy Academy is a cohort-based model that teaches, engages and encourages students in the 8th through the 12th grades to develop strong character, intentionally acquire external/internal assets and transition with a positive plan post high school, whether attending a four-year university, technical college, the military or entering the workforce. Life Literacy Academy uses program elements from multiple evidence-based and national models to effectively work with youth and their families.

AmeriCorps members will provide direct interventions for new 8th grade cohorts within each of the five school districts (Greater Clark County Schools, New Albany Floyd County Schools, Clarksville Community Schools, Scott County School District 1 and Scott County School District 2) that Life Literacy Academy serves. Corps members will engage in innovative, evidence-based practices to help students increase their number of developmental assets. In addition to the direct services, Corps members will provide support services to current 9th through 12th graders and their families participating in Life Literacy Academy.
