FHC Patient Access Call Center Specialist


Family Health Centers


- Manages appointments for multiple providers and services at multiple FHC locations.
- Answers, screens, and processes medical services requests.
- Responds to patient requests for an appointment via patient portal or the Phone system.
- Confers with on-site personnel to work same -day patients into today's schedule or
for immediate care services.
- Collects minimum patient demographic information and enters into scheduling software.
- Refers patients to the FHC nursing team for triage and medical services.
- Responds to crisis/red flag calls and refers them to the appropriate personnel.
- Utilizes the scheduling software to schedule appointments, take messages for provider
visits and services, and communicate the required information to the appropriate
- Identifies patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and/or other communication
barriers and uses the appropriate interpretative services.
- Documents as appropriate on the medical record the required documentation related to
interpretive services.
- Adheres to standard safety and infection control precautions.
- Performs related work as required.


- Knowledge of FHC policies and procedures for patient access
- knowledge of the laws governing the release of protected health information
- skill in basic mathematical computations
- Ability to multi task
- Ability to de-escalate challenging phone calls
- Attentive to details
- Ability to follow complex instructions
- Ability to operate office equipment 9e.g computer software, multi-line telephone, interpreter.
phones, copier, fax, and other electronic modes.
- Ability to plan and organize work activities.
- Ability to use data entry and retrieval systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
