Instrument Technician (I&E)

This position will be responsible for the electrical and instrumentation support in the plant. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Hexion Inc. is the global leader in thermoset resins. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Able to read and interpret instrument and electrical installation drawings, process plant P&ID’s, wiring schematics, loop drawings, electrical one-line drawings, and component assembly drawings. Able to read and follow technical manuals, specification sheets, maintenance instructions, parts bill of materials, and understand the significance of materials of construction for specific applications. Function check, diagnose, and calibrate instrument sensors, transmitters, and control elements for process parameters such as temperature, flow, level, and pressure. •Diagnose and maintain electrical and electronics systems and components such as relays, switches, power supplies, motor control circuits, AC/DC motors, variable speed drives, electric tracing, transformers, and wiring. Basic trouble-shooting and component replacement on control system hardware such as DCS and PLC systems. Assist in determining repairs needed by recommending replacement parts, options, and solutions. Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum of 5 years petrochemical plant experience as an I&E technician, or 2-year technical college diploma or military training in instrumentation, electrical, or electronics, and minimum of 2-years plant experience. Must become HazMat certified. DCS and PLC programming experience is a plus. Able to work in a team environment. Ability to work independently. Ability to work flexible schedule. Good verbal and written communication skills. Basic understanding of mechanical equipment. Basic computer skills and aptitude to improve. Able to work through problems in stressful conditions and remain calm. Able to respond to off-hours plant emergencies as a shared responsibility with other technician. Must have or meet requirements for a TWIC card. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Physical: Walking, sitting, carrying, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing, climbing (ladders of various heights), bending, pulling, pushing, stooping. Lift 50-55 lbs. repeatedly. Assist others lifting 55 – 100+ lbs. Must be able to wear all forms of respiratory protection, including the use of an SCBA inside a Level A Hazmat suit. Must be able to perform overhead work. Comply with all environmental, safety, and health policies and safe work practices. Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles. Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately, and possess eye-hand motor coordination. Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness, and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities. Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes, or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions, and perform repetitive work.
