POSITION SUMMARY:
Work directly with international immigrant and refugee children who have recently relocated to Louisville, KY. Positively impact the lives of middle school-age children through a rewarding and challenging opportunity to assist these students in an after school environment. The YMCA provides after school programming for JCPS's Newcomer Academy - a school for newly arrived refugee/immigrant English Language Learners. Our focus is on helping them become academically prepared to enter high school in their new country and to be in the present socially and emotionally. This job requires a person with passion, commitment, patience, and flexibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively engage and lead groups of 10-15 middle schooler participants at a time
Assist in individual/group tutoring of students (Math, Science, Social Studies, ESL)
Guide youth through activities involving a variety of sports (primarily soccer) and physical wellness
Guide youth through activities involving digital skills, STEM, art, language development, and field trips
Act and communicate effectively as role model and mentor for youth
Cultivate the principles of inclusion, accountability, and discipline among participants
Implement best practices for participant safety, supervision and proper behavior management
Foster ideals of sportsmanship, positive competition, and aid in the development of student-athletes

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 18 years of age
Extremely reliable and conscientious
Confidence in acting as authority figure

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant experience working with at-risk youth in an academic or athletic environment
2 years experience coaching or playing sports
Child care/youth worker experience

Part-time

Work Schedule

Set Hours — Must be available at least 2 days per week Monday through Thursday, 1:30 - 5:30pm

Salary

Starting pay $10.00 / hr (Based on experience)
